Ingredients

  • 8 ounces Unsalted butter melted until browned
  • 2 cups Light brown sugar firmly packed
  • 3 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 2 large Eggs plus one egg yolk, at room temperature
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 cups Holiday M&Ms
  • 6 ounces Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Flaky sea salt for sprinkling, optional

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Baking Sheet
  • Frying Pan
  • Whisk
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Wooden Spoon

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the perfect temperature for baking, ensuring that your blondies will cook evenly and come out perfectly golden.
  2. Prepare your 9x13-inch metal baking pan by lining it with parchment paper. This allows for easy removal and cleanup later. Don’t forget to spray the parchment and any exposed pan with nonstick baking spray!
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter until it’s browned. This step is crucial as it adds a depth of flavor that sets these blondies apart. Keep an eye on it, stirring occasionally, until you see a lovely golden brown color.
  4. Once browned, remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool for a few minutes. After it’s cooler, scrape the butter into a large, heat-proof mixing bowl. It's okay if you see a few bits of brown bits; they’re full of flavor!
  5. Next, whisk in the firmly packed brown sugar until it’s well combined. The mixture should feel smooth and sugary. Then, stir in the vanilla until it’s fully incorporated.
  6. Add in the eggs and egg yolk, beating until the mixture is smooth. You want to ensure the eggs are well mixed so your blondies turn out rich and fudgy.
  7. Using a rubber spatula, gently fold in the flour and salt. Don’t overmix; you want to combine the dry ingredients just until you don’t see any flour streaks.
  8. Now, it’s time to fold in the festive M&Ms and chocolate chips. Picture the vibrant colors and feel free to mix in your favorite chocolate for a twist!
  9. Scrape the batter into your prepared pan, spreading it evenly. This will ensure that your blondies bake evenly and have that delightful golden edge.
  10. Place the pan into the preheated oven and bake for 28 to 32 minutes. Watch closely; the edges should be firm and golden, while the center remains slightly wobbly. This is the perfect texture!
  11. After baking, allow the blondies to cool in the pan for at least 20 minutes. This waiting period lets them firm up, making it easier to cut them into squares. And don’t forget to sprinkle a little flaky sea salt on top for that extra flavor!

Notes

If you're using a glass or ceramic pan you'll need to add about 5 to 8 minutes to the bake time.
