Ingredients

  • 3 lbs chicken wings
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 2 cups Fanta Orange
  • 1/2 cup chopped cilantro leaves
  • 2 tablespoons minced/grated garlic (about 5 cloves)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 2 teaspoons oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 teaspoons chili flakes (more or less to taste)

Equipment

  • Chef's Knife
  • Grater
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Baking Sheet
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 450 degrees. This high temperature is key to getting that crispy texture on the wings. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup a breeze.
  2. Take the chicken wings and toss them in a large bowl with the salt, pepper, and olive oil. Make sure each wing is evenly coated. This step is crucial for flavor and ensuring they crisp up nicely in the oven.
  3. Spread the wings on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer. It’s important not to overcrowd them; give each wing space to breathe, which will help them cook evenly and get that beautiful golden color.
  4. Bake the wings for about 15 minutes initially. This first phase will cook them through, so keep an eye on them. You should see them start to turn golden brown.
  5. While the wings are baking, prepare the Fanta mixture. In a large bowl, combine the Fanta Orange with the cilantro, garlic, cumin, oregano, and the remaining salt and pepper. Stir well to combine all the flavors. This mixture will glaze your wings beautifully.
  6. Once the wings are done baking, take them out of the oven while they’re still hot. Carefully toss them in the Fanta mixture, ensuring each wing is well coated. This step is where the magic happens!
  7. Now, pour the coated wings back onto the same parchment-lined baking sheet. Spread them out again if needed to keep them in a single layer. This will allow the sticky glaze to set perfectly.
  8. Return the wings to the oven and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes. You're looking for the wings to become sticky and golden brown. The fragrance will be irresistible!
  9. Once they are done, take them out and let them cool slightly. As a finishing touch, serve the wings with a sprinkle of orange zest and additional cilantro leaves for a fresh pop of color and flavor.
  10. If you want a fun serving idea, take empty Fanta cans, open them at the top, and stack the wings inside. It’s a quirky presentation that’s sure to impress your guests!
