Ingredients

  • 1 pound Asparagus
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1 Lemon Zested then sliced
  • 3 cloves Garlic Sliced
  • 2 tablespoons Freshly Grated Parmesan
  • Salt To taste
  • Pepper To taste
  • Red Pepper Flakes Or to taste (optional)

Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Chef's Knife
  • Grater
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F. This high temperature is perfect for roasting and will help achieve that ideal crispy texture.
  2. Trim the asparagus. Grab both ends and bend the asparagus until the woody end snaps off. Do this with all the spears and discard the woody ends. You’ll be left with tender, delicious pieces.
  3. Transfer the trimmed asparagus to a baking sheet. Spread them out evenly for optimal roasting.
  4. Drizzle the olive oil over the asparagus, ensuring they’re evenly coated. This is crucial as it helps the flavors meld together.
  5. Add the lemon zest and sliced garlic to the baking sheet. Next, sprinkle with salt and pepper according to your taste.
  6. For a little kick, add the red pepper flakes. Toss everything together gently to ensure the asparagus is fully coated in the oil and seasonings.
  7. Arrange the asparagus in a single layer on the baking sheet. This helps them roast evenly and develop that lovely brown color.
  8. Place the lemon slices underneath and on top of the asparagus for extra flavor.
  9. Roast in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the asparagus is bright green, tender, and the ends are starting to brown. You want them to be cooked but still crisp.
  10. Remove from the oven and immediately grate Parmesan over the hot asparagus. The cheese will melt slightly, adding an irresistible touch to the dish.
  11. Serve warm and enjoy your perfectly roasted asparagus!
