Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 1 cup refried beans
  • 0.25 cup salsa
  • 2 cups shredded Mexican blend
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1 avocado, chopped
  • 0.25 cup crumbled cotija cheese
  • 1 pickled red onions
  • 1 chopped cilantro

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Baking Sheet
  • Skillet
  • Blender
  • Saucepan
  • Chef's Knife

Method

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 425 degrees F. This step ensures that your pizza gets that crisp, golden finish when it bakes.
  2. In a medium skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Carefully add the ground beef and begin to brown it for about 5 minutes. Use a wooden spoon to break the meat into small pieces. You want it fully cooked and nicely browned.
  3. Once the meat is browned, season it with chili powder, cumin, kosher salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and dried oregano. Stir to combine all the spices with the meat, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  4. Next, pour in the water and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes. You’re looking for a nice thickened sauce that clings to the meat. Once it reaches the desired consistency, turn off the heat and set it aside.
  5. Now it’s time to prepare your flatbreads. Place them on two large baking sheets. Spread equal amounts of the refried beans on top of each flatbread, creating a smooth layer.
  6. Next, add a thin layer of salsa or taco sauce over the beans. This adds a delightful zing to your pizza and keeps it moist.
  7. Top each flatbread with the cooked taco meat, ensuring it’s evenly distributed. Then sprinkle the shredded cheese generously over the top. You may have some leftover meat depending on how thick you like your toppings.
  8. Place the baking sheets in the preheated oven and bake for 8 to 10 minutes. You’ll want to keep an eye on them until the cheese has melted and is bubbling with excitement.
  9. Once they’re done, remove the baking sheets from the oven and let them cool for a moment. Then, it’s time to pile on the toppings! Add shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, avocado, crumbled cotija cheese, pickled red onions, and chopped cilantro on top.
  10. Serve your Easy Taco Pizza warm, and enjoy every flavorful bite! Feel free to customize with your favorite toppings!

Notes

  • Tip 1: I use store-bought Stonefire flatbread. You can buy 2 large ones or use 4 regular/medium sizes.
  • Tip 2: If you can’t find flatbread, you can also use pita bread and make taco pita pizzas.
  • Tip 3: This recipe is flexible. I put ingredient amounts and topping ideas, but build your own!
