Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley, optional

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Baking Sheet
  • Whisk
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Chef's Knife
  • Wooden Spoon

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s essential to have your oven hot to achieve that lovely golden brown color. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, 2 teaspoons of garlic powder, and ¾ teaspoon of salt. Use a whisk to mix everything together thoroughly.
  3. In another bowl or a large measuring cup, whisk together ½ cup of melted unsalted butter and 1 cup of buttermilk. Make sure the butter isn’t too hot to prevent curdling the buttermilk.
  4. Pour the buttermilk mixture into the flour mixture. Stir until just combined; be careful not to overmix. You want the dough to be thick and a little lumpy, which is perfectly normal.
  5. Gently fold in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese. This is where those cheesy flavors begin to shine!
  6. Using a greased ¼ cup measuring cup, scoop out portions of the dough and drop them onto the prepared baking sheet. Space them at least 2 inches apart to allow for spreading.
  7. Once they’re all on the sheet, pop them into the oven. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the tops are a light golden brown. Keep an eye on them to avoid overbaking.
  8. While the biscuits are baking, mix together 3 tablespoons of melted unsalted butter, ½ teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1 tablespoon of fresh chopped parsley (if using) in a small bowl.
  9. As soon as the biscuits are out of the oven, brush the garlic butter mixture generously over the tops. This adds flavor and a gorgeous shine.
  10. Let the biscuits cool for a few minutes before serving. They’re best enjoyed warm!

Notes

Storage: Store leftover biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. For longer storage, place them in the fridge.
Freezing: You can freeze the unbaked biscuit dough. Just scoop the dough onto a baking sheet, freeze until solid, then transfer to a freezer bag. Bake straight from frozen!
Variations: Experiment with adding different cheeses or herbs to customize your biscuits.
