Ingredients

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 cups fresh basil leaves (two 1.25-ounce packages)
  • 2 ½ teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1 ½ teaspoons fresh lemon zest
  • 2 medium-sized garlic cloves peeled and roughly chopped
  • ¼ cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin

Equipment

  • Measuring Cups and Spoons
  • citrus juicer
  • citrus zester
  • mini food processor (3-cup capacity)
  • rubber spatula

Method

  1. Start by preparing your ingredients. Measure out ½ cup of mayonnaise, 2 cups of packed fresh basil leaves, 2 ½ teaspoons of lemon juice, 1 ½ teaspoons of fresh lemon zest, 2 chopped garlic cloves, ¼ cup of whole milk, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, ⅛ teaspoon of salt, and ½ teaspoon of ground cumin.
  2. In the bowl of your mini food processor, add all the ingredients together. Make sure to pack the basil leaves tightly to get the most flavor out of them.
  3. Blend the mixture on high speed until the basil leaves are finely chopped. This should take about 30 seconds. You'll want a smooth and creamy texture.
  4. Stop the processor and scrape down the sides with a rubber spatula to ensure everything is well combined. This is important to ensure there are no lumps of the basil left.
  5. Blend again for another 10 to 15 seconds until you achieve a uniform consistency.
  6. Taste your dressing and feel free to adjust the seasoning. Add a little more salt or another splash of lemon juice if you want a brighter flavor.
  7. Once satisfied with the taste, transfer your Basil Mayo Dressing into a clean, airtight container.
  8. Store in the refrigerator for up to four days. The flavors will deepen as the dressing sits, making it even more delicious!
  9. Enjoy your dressing as a spread, dip, or salad dressing. The possibilities are endless!

Notes

  • Storage: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days.
  • Freezing: I don’t recommend freezing this dressing because the texture may change once thawed.
  • Pairing: This dressing pairs wonderfully with grilled chicken, sandwiches, or even as a dip for fresh veggies.
  • Herb Variations: Try adding other herbs like cilantro or parsley for a different flavor profile.
  • Spice it up: For a kick, consider adding a pinch of red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce.
