Ingredients

  • 15 ounce cooked chickpeas drained, or 1 ½ cups of cooked chickpeas
  • 2 medium ripe avocados
  • 1-2 tablespoons tahini paste
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ¼ teaspoon sumac optional
  • ¼ teaspoon sesame seeds optional
  • ¼ teaspoon nigella seeds optional
  • 1 tablespoon microgreens optional
  • 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil

Equipment

  • Food Processor

Method

  1. Gather all your ingredients. You’ll need cooked chickpeas, ripe avocados, tahini paste, salt, lemon juice, olive oil, and any optional garnishes you’d like to use.
  2. In a food processor, combine the cooked chickpeas, ripe avocados, tahini paste, salt, lemon juice, and olive oil. Pulse the mixture until it starts to blend together.
  3. Continue to pulse the mixture until you achieve a very smooth dip. You can run the food processor for up to five minutes if necessary; this helps create that ultra-smooth texture.
  4. If you prefer your hummus to be a bit thinner, add a small amount of water cautiously. Be careful not to add too much, as you want to keep the dip thick and creamy.
  5. Once you’re satisfied with the consistency, transfer the hummus to a serving bowl. Use a spoon to spread it out evenly.
  6. Drizzle a little extra virgin olive oil over the top to enhance the flavor and presentation.
  7. For an added touch, garnish your hummus with sumac, sesame seeds, nigella seeds, or any other toppings you enjoy. I love to experiment with different garnishes!
  8. Serve your Avocado Hummus with crispy pita chips, crunchy vegetable sticks, or spread it on a sandwich for an extra layer of flavor.
  9. Enjoy the compliments as everyone digs in and relishes this flavorful dip!
